AUGUST EVENTS:

YOUTH TRIP TO CEDAR POINT -August 2nd
All youth are invited to join us August 2nd for a fun day at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. We will leave Praise at 6am and stay overnight at a nearby hotel. Chaperones and youth will return early afternoon on Tuesday, August 3rd. For more information, see the order forms that were left in Praise mailboxes in July. Extra order forms are available on the table across from the mailboxes in the entrance way of the church. Previously we advertised that the 325ers group needed a chaperone. We have since found two volunteers (one female and one male) to chaperone the 325ers. However, parents of youth are, of course, still invited to come. Note that unless we receive contrary direction from the parents of the youth, Junior and Senior High will be permitted to break up into groups of 3 youth (without direct and constant supervision from an adult) and enjoy the park. Youth will be required to check-in periodically throughout the day while at the park. The $60 fee covers hotel and admission ticket only. Meals, snacks, and extra spending money is not included in the price.

WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE SEMINAR - Saturday, August 7th
Come join us at Praise Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 7th from 1-4 pm for a Women’s self defense seminar. The course will be led by Pastor J. Brown, who holds a seventh degree black belt in karate. He will be teaching skills and techniques of self defense to promote self confidence and safety for women. This is a great opportunity for any women ages 13 and up who has wondered how they would defend themselves in the event of an attack. We will be taking a donation for the seminar. ANNUAL THRIVENT NIGHT AT TINCAPS - Saturday, August 21st
Once again, we have the opportunity to meet at the baseball stadium. This year the Thrivent game will be Saturday, August 21st at 7:05pm. Tickets are only $7 (same for kids and adults) per person and should be paid by August 8th. Before the game, we would love for you to come to a tailgate party downtown, at 5:30pm on the uppermost level of the parking garage. We ask for everyone to bring their own meat, drinks, tableware, and a side dish for all to share. We will have a sign-up sheet at church for side dishes. Please make checks payable to Praise Lutheran Church and put in Katy Teitzel’s mailbox.

CONFIRMATION MEETING - AUGUST 25th
A new session of confirmation classes is about to begin and we want everyone to be ready. Since not everybody who is in confirmation is in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade (what is traditional at Praise for confirmation age), we will now make a greater effort to call the three years of confirmation “first, second, and third year” confirmands. Therefore, we’re calling not just the Jr. Highers, but anyone under 16 that needs to attend confirmation class. If you are in need of your first, second, or third year of confirmation, please attend an introduction meeting on August 25th at 5:30pm in the youth room at Praise. Any questions see Pastor Brown.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS INFORMATION MEETING - Sunday, August 29th
Our annual Teacher Information Breakfast Meeting will be Sunday, August 29th. We use this time to go over guidelines and expectations for your Sunday School Classroom. We will meet at 9:15, between services, in the Silver Room.

The Thursday evening Women’s Bible Study will continue meeting throughout the summer months at 7:00 PM in the silver room. New topics will be studied each week. YOUTH GROUP IN AUGUST:
Youth group will take place during summer. Continuing in August, due to many factors, we will enjoy a regular rotation of having youth group meetings at the homes of our youth or those in the congregation that would like to chaperone a youth event. This will take place until our new youth room is ready for us to move in (timetable TBA – but estimated by the start of October). In the mean time, a signup sheet for hosting youth group will be available at the clipboard area near Pastor Brown’s office door. Please help host a group if you can. The schedule is as follows:
325ers – 1st Wednesday of the month.
Jr. High – 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month at 5:30pm.
Sr. High – Every Wednesday night at 7pm.
The schedule of locations is:
August 4th – Pastor Brown – location: at his house (325ers & Sr. High)
August 11th – Teitzel and Forth family (Jr. & Sr. High)
August 18th – We need a host (Sr. High only)
August 25th – We need a host (Jr. & Senior High)

SEPTEMBER EVENTS:

YOUTH GROUP SERVICE PROJECT
On Saturday, September 18, 2010 the Junior and Senior High youth of Praise will venture to Johnny Appleseed Park and participate in the annual Maumee River Cleanup. Canoes, gloves, and garbage bags are provided. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to hang out at the Johnny Appleseed Festival and enjoy a caramel apple or two.

Jr. & Sr. High Christian Music Festival - September 24th & 25th
We’re counting down the days until the Ichthus Christian Music Festival at Kruse Auction Park. Set aside the weekend of September 25th. Headliners include Family Force 5, Switchfoot, Reliant K, Barlow Girl, Thousand Foot Krutch, Sanctus Real, The Afters, Phil Keaggy, DedembeRadio, & Every Sunday.
