Help strike out hunger with the Fort Wayne TinCaps. We are asking all three youth groups (3rd – 12th grades) to get involved with a wonderful service event in August. On Saturday, August 15th from 2-5pm, Praise Lutheran Church will join hundreds of other volunteers to pack 100,000 meals. 35,00 will be sent to those underprivileged in India, and 65,000 will remain for those here in NorthEast Indiana. Volunteers will get a “Kids Against Hunger” t-shirt, chances to win prizes, and an opportunity to meet and greet TinCaps players. A free-will offering will also be taken during the event. To register, please sign up at www.lutheransonline.com/rfo270 Note that there are two different time slots available, but Praise will only be doing the 2-5pm option. Know that we will be having a tailgate party at the park this very same evening before we attend the Thrivent Night TinCaps baseball game. See Pastor Brown if you have any questions.

It only comes around every three years. Therefore, we need to begin planning and preparing ourselves now. 2010 is the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is a huge event where last time there were 35,000 + youth in attendance. And believe it or not, New Orleans in 2010 is suppose to be even bigger! Registration opens in the fall, but I want everyone now to mark July 17th – 21st 2010 on your calendar. The gathering will be open to all those entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in Fall of ’10. Those older may go as long as you haven’t yet reached the age of 21 by July 17, 2010. Those 21 and older may attend as chaperones. Unfortunately, the cost expectation for this event is high. Therefore, we need to begin plans to raise money now. Our goal next year will be to raise $1,400 per person to attend this event. Therefore, I’m encouraging our Senior High youth to begin fundraising now. Our current 9th graders and above need to be focused on this event very soon. Please attend the meeting coming up on August 26th.
We will send in the initial deposit on October 1st. If you’ll be entering 7th, 8th, or 9th grades next year, don’t feel completely left out. Although you can’t attend the National Youth Gathering in 2010, you will be able to attend the 2013 gathering with Praise. And know that we have a trip planned in 2010 for you too. The Jr. high trip is a Spring Break event in the Spring of 2010. More details will follow and decisions will be made during the youth group meeting time on august 26th.

Both Jr. and Sr. High groups will meet and leave Praise at 6:30 for a movie night at a local theatre. A request was made by some of our youth to see a PG-13 movie, “My Sister’s Keeper.” If this movie is still playing it will certainly be presented as one of our options. However, we can certainly entertain other possibilities too. Give Pastor Brown your input ASAP.

This 7pm youth group time, which meets directly following the youth board meeting, will be held at Pastor Brown’s house around the campfire. Our campfire experience was so positive at Mt. Cross in California, there have been several requests by the youth to do a similar night during one of our youth group nights.

We’ll leave Praise at 7pm this Friday night to attend a free (please bring a freewill offering) concert in Roanoke, IN by Pastor Brown’s favorite band… the Apologetix. The Apologetix are a Christian parody band that takes secular songs (oldies, classic rock, rap, country, and all kinds) and puts Christian lyrics to the tunes. Not only is the price right, but you’ll love the music. Concert runs approximately from 8 – 10pm. As with every offsite youth event, please arrange transportation in advance.

August 2nd – 6th the Junior High and a few adult chaperones will be camping at a Christian music festival at Six Flags Amusement park in Darien Lake, New York. Please pray for both our safety as we travel, and also that our Lord would strengthen the faith of all who attend. We will be leaving directly following the 2nd worship service on Sunday, August 2nd. There will certainly be great opportunities for play and fun on the rollercoasters of the amusement park. However, we are looking forward to so much more taking place while we’re there. I wouldn’t put it past our Lord to work in the hearts of our Junior High youth at this event in many of the same ways He touched the lives and strengthened our Senior High last month on their trip. The Junior High youth will have opportunities to experience inspirational speakers, hear uplifting music, and attend workshops and devotions by some amazing presenters. Look out Praise… God is doing powerful things through our youth groups!

As we celebrate a successful mission trip and thank the congregation for their countless hours of volunteering, prayers, and financial support to help send our youth on this life changing trip, we would be remiss to forget those from Blue Fox Auctions, who also donated much to help make the trip possible. Without them, our benefit auction (our largest fundraiser of the year) would not have been possible. Furthermore, Blue Fox has once again volunteered their services if Praise decides to hold another auction in 2010. Please note their new website at www.BlueFoxAuctions.com and try to show our appreciation by recommending their services if we know anyone who is in need of an auctioneer.

We look forward to attending the Thrivent game on Saturday, August 15th at 7:05pm where the TinCaps will faceoff against the Dayton Dragons. Tickets are only $7 per person and should be paid for by August 2nd. Just leave the check, payable to Praise Lutheran Church, in Pastor Brown’s mailbox by the close of 2nd service on August 2nd. Write “baseball” on the memo portion of your check. Also, plan on meeting there at 5:30 for a tailgate party. If you’re coming early to volunteer for the service event, please plan on staying (but you will still need a game ticket).

Last month Pastor Brown was invited to share his Breaking Barriers presentation at two different venues in Louisiana. The day preceding the National Youth Workers Conference, Pastor Brown used his day off to travel to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in New Orleans and also Trinity Lutheran Church in Baton Rouge to share the Gospel through his unique message and displays of board and brick breaking. Gloria Dei in particular was a presentation that could be described as vital. It certainly may have been a matter of eternal life or death for some. Forty youth were in attendance that day, as part of a summer day camp, who were completely unchurched. Many of which had never been pointed to Jesus Before. Through the Breaking Barriers message, those kids heard about the need for Christ and were delivered the assurance of salvation for all who believe. Praise God for all the opportunities He gives us all to share the Good News of Jesus so that all may be saved! For more information on Breaking Barriers, please go to www.SinBusting.com
